IRON PALM: SPORTS

by Shi Fu Adam Bottorff

Sure, Iron Palm will enhance your martial ability and improve your delivery. But, hopefully our everyday existence is safe enough to enjoy work and play. Of course if your occupation involves manual labor, then you already know what stronger hands and fingers can do and how they can increase your strength and endurance on the job. Whether we have a more blue or white collar job, chances are, male or female, we participate in some form of athletic recreation. Iron palm will make you a better athlete.

This brings me to my example of how Iron palm improved my performance. My occupation as a Tennis Professional keeps me fit, and has over 30 years of swinging the racquet, developed at least an already stronger right arm and hand. The hundreds of thousands of times I have swung the "stick" would naturally build strength. Although I primarily teach and coach players of all ages and abilities now, I did compete on the International Professional Satellite Tour for about 4 years. This is just to let you know that I’m a good player, and so are my opponents. In tennis, as in martial arts, good opponents use their kinematics to the maximum, and instead of delivering a "heavy" punch, tennis players deliver a "heavy" ball. The ball seems to weigh a pound or two rather than ounces when trying to return the shot. This past Fall I played a rare tournament and performed well for the little time I had practiced. You see being on the court all-day one’s body gets worn out. I have chosen my personal exercise time to be martial arts training, not tennis training. Nonetheless, I found myself playing against a "heavy" server. Now, in my playing days which were very pre-Iron palm, as well as pre-martial arts, I always had trouble with the heavy "kick" serve, a serve that is deep in the box and bounds up like a super-ball high above your shoulders. To play it back correctly, one needs to move forward before it "gets away." Our match started and my opponent served the first game. I stunned myself, as well as my opponent by "rocketing" returns past him before it seems he could get his racquet prepared. Sure I was moving forward on his heavy serve, but my right hand in such a small stroke or "strike" not only neutralized the force of his serve, but in turn smacked the ball back with little effort.

I wish I had had Iron Palm while playing full time. I can imagine not only amateur but professional athletes benefiting from an authentic 5 Elder Iron Palm program. Think of the chi and finger strength of a baseball pitcher. Think of a volleyball player’s "kill" shot or set shot with the rollerbar-tough inner forearms. I would think every basketball player’s ball skills would be enhanced. The list goes on. By the way, sad to say, I lost that match only because my feet were not in as good a condition as my hands. I hope you are also because of Iron Palm experiencing better performance in your chosen athletic recreation.
