Mawn On-Line Chat With Jung Shee James Patrick Lacy/18 Daoist PalmsI started formal lessons in the martial arts full time in 1973. My interest in breaking was stimulated via the acquaintance of other breakers, some world famous. I often learn through osmosis. I attended exhibitions, school testings and other public events where breaking was being taught or demonstrated. I moved to San Diego around 1976. I immediately joined an Elua Lima school. The school emphasized sparring and going to our Grandmaster’s tournaments. From the late 70’s all through the 80’s I was a voracious magazine and book collector. I studied how others conditioned the hands as well as the entire body. I always packed a good punch naturally and absorbed like a sponge all I could. Back in those days it was mostly bricks, boards, glass and ice that I witnessed being broke. It really became a part of my niche when my former Chinese kung fu teacher started training me in traditional Five Elder lineage breaking. I learned that there was more to breaking than just procedures. Absent from anything I had been privy to was knowledge about dit da jow as well as the traditional iron palm moving meditations. I also became aware of how many types of iron palm existed. Coconuts became my focus in breaking seriously around the early 80’s. Iron Palm and Dim Mak are Lacy specialties, especially iron palm. His 17 Panther tapes are best sellers and represent Panther's main iron palm and dim mak categories. Author of 9 books, over 600 martial columns and 67 major martial magazine features attest to Lacy's joy of technical writing in order to preserve what he has been fortunate to be privy to. He holds 19 separate iron palm certificates from Wai as well. Being Panther's first martial arts home study video exchange certification program, and having started this way of teaching in 1991 with the formation of Mew Hing Productions, Lacy lists at least 50 titles aside from what Panther has, with more coming out each year. Lacy wore his FUMA T-shirt on the Panther series. A long time friend and admirer of Shihan-Dai Michael DePasquale Jr., Lacy has penned more articles for Karate International than any other magazine. Much of his success he credits to Michael DePasquale's friendship and guidance. Briefly, Lacy has a Day in his name in San Diego. He is a member of the WHFSC, Karate International's Who's Who In The Martial Art Elite, O'Sensei Phil Porter's Organization, Soke Brown's Hall of Fame, Karate Voice Florida Hall Of Fame, 1st Action card series of 36 Masters with Action Magazine, World Martial Arts Hall of Fame and Brotherhood of the Knights of Heaven Hall of Fame. His greatest joy is teaching via home study products while helping to spread authentic kung fu in places folks would never find a local school. In closing, Lacy is the first person in world history to document breaking a coconut on a string in mid air. He is also the first documented to break the middle of a stack of three coconuts at a major San Diego tournament with the judges testing the coconuts. He was the first to also document breaking 8 coconuts without a support hand, the sheet break, bottom of two, on fire and two at once, each hand with pillows. ![]() Phone: (619) 766 - 9256 Mew Hing Productions 42499 Old Hwy. 80 P.O.
