Metaphysical Pseudo Science Anyone? Like the old saying, "Don't shoot the messenger!"Since boredom could arguably be a major cause of death, let's venture to the edge where it gets adventurous. Lets take pages of voluminous metaphysical data from say a notable source like The Urantia Book (www.urantia.com,) and for the sake of brevity, allow me to 'creatively,' as in a story type rendering, convey the ideas around our topic of the history of the club/staff in the tradition of journalistic 'cut to the substance,' style. I would like to emphasize that the following legend of the first human family about a million years ago, was attributed to so-called angels documenting the 'opening' of wisdom and worship traits. This, as we have discussed in prior articles was predicated upon the intelligent 'taming,' if you will, of fire. Before this time these advanced primate related pre-humans played with fire from lightning. They even added to the fire to keep it burning. The difference was they had not learned the method of these first humans, to 'create' fire whenever needed. There is a saying, "scientific method is the most effective way to learn, and trial and error the least." Nevertheless both are needed. Such was the case of our human ancestors. Let's look at some clues. According to legend the first human parents were among the more intelligent members of a group that first learned to throw stones and to use clubs in fighting. They also made use of sharp spicules of stone, flint and bone. Imagine these first humans as boy/girl twins who became 'enlightened' to the 'human' level at 11 years old. Legend says the brother on no less than a dozen occasions made good use of these weapons in saving his own life and that of his adventurous sister, who unfailingly accompanied him on all his tours of exploration. A sense of personality and the presence of an inner guardian were the reason these two felt more than mere animals. The Flight The twins had never been popular with their animal cousins of the primates, and their building of a superior tree home caused even more jealousness. It was during a violent storm that in fearful embrace they made up their minds to flee their treetop and tribal habitat. They had already prepared a safe hiding place a half-day journey to the north. Despite their primate's fear of the ground at night, they set out just before nightfall on a northern trek. They used the full moon and arrived just after midnight. On the journey they discovered an exposed flint deposit. They gathered up a supply for the future of the best naturally shaped for various uses. In attempting to make them more useful for different purposes they started to 'chip' the flint. They discovered the 'sparking' quality and conceived of the idea of building fire. The notion did not take hold as the climate was still such that there was little need of fire. By autumn the sun lowered in the sky. Nights grew colder. They made use of animal skins for warmth. Before being away from home even a month, the brother thought he could make fire with flint. For two months they tried and failed. Then one day before sunset it occurred to the brother to climb a tree and get a dry birds nest. It flared up to a full blaze the moment the spark hit it. They were so surprised and startled at their success that they almost lost the fire, but saved it with additional suitable fuel. Thus perhaps the first search for firewood. Legend has it their lives were short but eventful. All night long they sat up watching their fire burn. They had discovered a way to defy climate and thus forever be independent of their animal relatives of the southern lands. After three days rest and the enjoyment of the fire they traveled on. These two had a child, according to legend the first ever-wrapped in protective coverings at the time of birth. The human race had begun. Caring for enfeebled infants characterized progressive development of mind. These two had nineteen children. They lived to enjoy association of almost fifty grandchildren and half dozen great grandchildren. The extended family lived in rock shelters, some inter-connected by hallways that had been excavated in the soft limestone with flint tools designed by the couples' children. Legend says they died at 42, when both were killed by an overhanging rock during an earthquake. Five of their children and eleven grandchildren were also killed. Scores of their descendents suffered serious injuries. One of the sons assumed leadership of the clan and was assisted by his wife, his eldest sister. They entombed the dead with rolled up stones. The family held together for twenty generations until combined food competition and social friction started dispersion. How they looked The brother and sister described in this story and their Andonic clan in general had black eyes and a swarthy complexion, something of a cross between yellow and red. In comparison they looked more like modern day Eskimos than any other type of living humans. They were the first to use skins of animals for cold protection and had a bit more hair on their bodies. As time passed the clans grew in number. Their minds occupied two thoughts: hunting to obtain food and fighting to avenge themselves against real or unreal supposed injustice or insult at the hands of the neighboring tribes. It was hard to induce primitives to live in peace long. Man is the descendent of fighting animals. When closely associated the uncultured irritate and offend. Even today it is perhaps true to some degree that "over familiarity breeds contempt." I personally suspect the creation of the different races as a sort of 'fix' to this dilemma. Dispersion of the Andonites These legendary (merely one legend,) first human clan Andonites did not travel far into Asia and did not at first enter Africa. The geography at the time pointed them north. North they went as far as they could survive the slowly advancing ice of the third glacier. Before the ice sheet reached France and the British Isles descendents pushed west over Europe and established about a thousand settlements along the great rivers leading to the 'then' warm waters of the North Sea. The Andonite tribes were the first river dwellers of France. They lived along the Somme for tens of thousands of years. Perhaps the overwhelming evidence of descendents along the course of the river valley attribute to the fact that the Somme is the only river unchanged by the Glaciers. It still runs down to the sea. Overhanging cliffs along the rivers and hillside grottos gave them a view to 'approaches' and sheltered them from the elements. It also allowed them to enjoy their fires without getting too much 'smoke.' Ideally they preferred camping near the edge of a forest near a stream. In closing this 'chapter' of a version of many legends concerning our evolution from first humans to modern day martial artists, I will leave off with a short closing. I don't have space in the scope of this article to get into Onegar - the First Truth Teacher of these Andonites. The Andonites were clever at camouflaging their shelters and showed great skill in constructing stone sleeping chambers and dome shaped stone huts. Rolling a stone over the entrance once inside closed the entrance. This stone was put in place before the roof stones. As we meditate on this history of club/stick/staff/stone/bone weapons, it really can be seen how the taming of fire not only led to the effective use and development of these most basic martial weapons, but also the link with knowledge and wisdom to devise all the weaponry that has come since over the last million years. These ancestors were fearless and successful hunters. With the exception of certain berries and fruit, they lived exclusively on flesh. Andon is credited in this legend as inventing the stone ax. His descendents early discovered and made use of the throwing stick and harpoon. These were the first fashioners of flint tools.
