It is time to speak – The Year of the Metal Tiger demands expansion. Yes, that would be me, so unless you are under a year old or 60 years older (120,) this is my time to take control. I am an original hippie born in the Haight in 1950. Urantia read since 1968. I have a huge audience because my “experience” of not only fighting since five, but having first done time in 1965. It took 17.5 years of probation, parole or being locked up to finally break free of an experienced street life few have had the opportunity to witness. Unbeknownst to many, convicts fought since the founding of America. Well anyhow as Tom Brokaw ended The History Channel special on the 60’s said…”We all have a little hippie in us if we use a computer or the internet, and his final words…In the end, the hippies won.”

As martial artists, it is important to remember who started Earth Day in 1970. Tim Leary changed the mantra before he died from “Turn on, tune in and drop out.” to turn on, tune in and take control.” We are the oldest constitutional democracy on the earth. We are not known as the Republic of the United States or The Republic of America. Republicanism is subservient to Democracy and even Communism. The only two commerce games are Democracy and Communism in cooperative trade.

As martial artists, you should recall that the army of the Dowress empress were the five elders and their lines of authentic and unauthentic kung fu. They called themselves Republicans. Their corrupt ways did not last long as Mao sent them all packing for their lives. Sun Yat Sen of the Republic of Taiwan was one of these Wampoa martial clicks. He was here with his wife begging Americans for money. China hid in WW1 and WW2 for the most part and only showed their true colors during Korea and most all the “police” wars since. The reason Cain and Able make good cooperative commerce partners is simple. The big brain for the big truth (America,) will never take second in an all out war no holds bared – nuke/laser pre-empt attack. We don’t need to be Sun Tzu or the “most apt pupils of the art of warfare.” The reason is we are smarter and know Jesus runs things. Us Urantia Book readers fight with other religions that are not “I AM” - Jesus Holy Spirit based and experience filled. It is as it should be. We can be in debt…indeed experience hard times, but when we sleep at peace each night it is because we the people of America who vote and are considered “common laborers,: are indeed the backbone of society. So in essence just like the playgrounds of the 50’s – pay us for protection services. We still maintain top gun status thank God! I say let the rich get rich and let the poor get richer too.

So how does commerce play out in martial history? The country I was born in – America has a strong WASP history. Church thumpers existed, but in the Wild West San Francisco’s Barbary District near the bay and Chinatown was the toughest city in America easily. It was there in 1850 that the first drug law was passed in America. It was a racist law designed to protect white women from the Chinese opium dens. It only existed in that district of San Francisco, not the rest of the city or anywhere else in America.

Fast forward to 1913 and you come across racist drug law number 2. It was orchestrated by San Diego and Orange Counties in a hissy fit over Pachucos, Zoot Zoots and farm laborers mixing with white women to smoke pot. Hearst did not want hemp to ruin his tree cutting business and joined the anti marijuana campaign San Diego initiated. Hoover did the orchestration after being humiliated when La Guardia of New York disagreed and praised the benefits of medical marijuana. Rather than stay in one district, the law went virile to all the states.

Look what happened to Mormons over religion. Right wing moralists who in the context of US history were always outnumbered on any issue involving responsible self-medication or forms of self-gratification. That’s right “self-gratification.” It is our duty to be happy folks – not our destiny!!! Jews did not work without beer. Latin countries like their siesta. Cowboys and sailors would knuckle your head for proselytizing about the ‘sins’ of their choice of self gratification. Think the grandmasters today and in the past did not partake in shamanic practices? That would be truly small brained and naïve. Have there always been and will there always be goodie two shoes about all this? Most definitely! Thank God though that they do not represent the real mountain men, cowboys and good ‘ol boys that paved the way for the cosmopolitan society we have become.

Get out the Boy Scout manuals for our martial artists of today - trust me one of the best lineage grandmasters I know, can’t even swim! Can you say playgrounds USA 50’s? Any Godless but spiritually equal human can template our knowledge and get straight A’s. What they cannot do is exceed their limitations in the big intellect department. It is like the many churches that don’t get my I AM religion or The Urantia Revelations. Bottom line is when push comes to shove we share the fact that as J esus freaks, we indeed represent the ultimate military dominance that will always be needed to keep things orderly and enforce the rule of law.

Democracy means Republicans with money agendas still have to answer to the voters. Voters can impeach a President, remove a Congressman or Senator, Governor, Mayor, Four Star Generals, head of Homeland Security or any one who ever acts illegally toward the will of the voters. For Republicans to survive they will have to remember not to mess with State Rights or the Separation of Church and State. To keep the whiners happy we owe it to all Americans to have the freedom to use medical pot. Brain surgeons, Rocket Scientists, Police, Military…all of us. Just like alcohol at the Hall of Fame Awards – do these folks ponder between sips how prohibition sent thousands to hard-core prisons and broke up families? Tobacco has never been illegal! So all I am saying is let’s get real. We never evolve in time and space where we are not judged by our peers. Maybe since 1850 a certain feminization of the male showed its head. Jealously, or racism is a feminine quality. Men acted like men until 1913 then something weird happened. Hoover was anything but a man’s man. He would not have survived 15 minutes in Quentin without protection. Yet this anything but a virile masculine man convinced a bunch of right wing goodies to go for the BS hook, line and sinker.

Fast forward – 2010 – San Diego unincorporated area still trying to ignore the will of the voters in California. That’s right, believe it or not San Diego is still playing the dumb, stay in denial, we are the moral police and will work better for you than democracy itself. Long story short, the Supervisors voted to go against the chief officer of the State, the Governor and his Attorney General. What did we have to say about it…nothing? That is because of a fault in the process. The Supervisor had no term limits. They get too cozy with the moralists and materialist worshipers of wealth. We never had laws on so many form s of self-gratification not available to all our workers from the President on down to use based on job performance. Job that is if you are not a one-man band entrepreneur. Nice word, thank the French for helping us win the second attack on our sovereignty at the battle of New Orleans in the war of 1812 – the war Key *an Englishman,) penned the Star Spangled Banner.

Would you hear this in any major magazine? Now you know why I don’t write for the magazines, I write from experience of being the grandmaster of my art since 1988. Remember the word experience. When a teacher has experienced both sides of the law, they have a special advantage and if you or your teacher have not been to prison, the next best would be military. If you have had neither, you have led a sheltered life.

Rod Van Dam…remember him? He was wooed by all the magazines, became a WWE star and guess what? They kicked him out for testing positive for pot. So what did he do about it? He became an executive member of NORML. He had the guts to not only make it where few can, but he did it his way. Same with the greatest Olympic swimmer of all time. Now Rod is TNA Champion on Hogan’s Thursday night show. Way to go Rod – sick of wimpy goodies that skirt historic issues like shy women or effeminate jailbait men.

Do not consider this anger, but rather righteous indignation. Recently I took time to watch a sample mainstream prime time show. It was shocking and hard to watch such metro actors acting and taking themselves seriously. I could see the total take over of about 80% of the shows. There will always be this version of America, and at the same time, a street nitty gritty version of America and a prison view of America.

Of late I have watched the conception of the mixed martial art term evolve. It smacked of sissy ground fighting, poor traditional basics and some of the worst boxing I have ever seen. I took note that all these sports on television had rules. In real life, the rules are dictated by legal implications and pure survival in one to four move…on your feet. I applaud Ken Shamrock for bringing strong personality to WWE, as well as Dan Severn and Brock Lesnar. The reason they did not last was due to personality. That’s right – personality keeps careers strong. Without healthy ego there is no “I AM,” presence. The big money slots demand the people decide what is entertaining. They speak through the ratings. New generation stars with this presence of dependable good are far and few. John Cena is the face of a charismatic and well rounded, emotionally grounded individual. I have to mention wrestling on television as it is bigger than football, baseball or any singular show on Monday and Friday Nights. Even Tuesday if you add NXT and the Hulkster is doing his on thing on Thursday night with TNA. Don’t forget the TNA world title belt is one of the oldest. It is neat to see the kids of Stu Hart, Jimmy Snooka, Cowboy Bob Orton, Di Biase, Rhodes and so many other well-known wresters of old, even Blackjack Milligan’s kin.

To me, boxing got boring after Mike Tyson. He was someone with charisma and I admired that. With a bit more perseverance he could make it in WWE, just with a few good moves – no one could withstand his head punch from nowhere. But then again, he would have to be mature enough to handle the mind games and laugh all the way to the bank. Just an idea.

I am glad my baby loves the western movies, as I recall the 50’s tune. Peace and love to all and remember to participate in our living Democracy. A government of the people and by the people. Not the Republic of America or The Republic of The United States of America. We are known by our peers worldwide as a Democracy and that means votes rule, there is separation of church and state as well as State Rights. Never forget the plight of China’s Republican government – in the end numbers ruled. The Civil War we fought will insure State Rights forever as well as the separation of church and state to insure moralists understand why this must and will always be.

As I write this I see clearly how Prop.19 may not pass. We will see, that is media hype here at the epicenter – in reality it is doing 50% for and 40% against according to NORML’s last e-mail. Whitman is against it and Brown is still Brown, afraid to tackle the issue. I never thought I would see the day when San Diego Supervisors that awarded me for decades in my work, now think they are above the law regarding The US Supreme Court’s refusal to hear their appeal. That’ right, they lost every battle and were told by the State Supreme Court and now the US Supreme Court “Federal law does not trump State law when it comes to medical marijuana.” Republicans have a hard time understanding the ramifications of this. The lawsuits are already poised as a zero tolerance affects us all and is illegal under the current Supreme Court ruling. In the meantime, our Governor had years to fix this, but led us into more debt. Republicans want our State for the delegate votes. Both parties hide like cowards while we the people sit and watch the Border Patrol zero tolerance even for legal users with the right amount to cross-checkpoints within our State. They book everyone with the zero tolerance. It is like Nazi tactics for the Federal Govt.’s Border Patrol to be acting like this – breaking the law. No one is above the law and this will play out the right way. Wake up America and claim this great nation back from ruthless pompous Republicans or Democrats that are wussed out and have no backbone to bring up these issues.

Well that’s all for now folks. I started Martial Arts Talk when I wrote for the then Navy Dispatch. It spread to my site, columns in Black Belt sister publications and still is heard in Action Martial Arts Magazine, albeit sometimes edited for them. I never edit my thoughts as I made it in my field and don’t use my pen to do anything but say what is in my mind…to be archived. I never have regrets and I always write first for myself. I am my own worst critic, but after writing over 20 books, penning over 75 major martial art magazine articles, ten years of weekly Navy Dispatch martial columns, over 30 television shows, numerous radio talk shows – one with baseball Hall of Famer Steve Garvey, around thirty major newspaper features…well you get the point – add Inside Kung Fu Magazine Hall of Fame 1989 and 17 Panther Production Instructionals and you get a picture of 7 percent of what I have achieved. That is experience that validates my opinions to myself and others on my wavelength. This old hippie Jesus freak gets his bold power and glory from Holy Spirit and is proud to say so in the land of the free and home of the brave.
